Update on Warranty Claims

Here are some special instructions to help expedite your warranty claims. Please remember to fill out your SCA’s with complete part numbers and serial numbers for BOTH the failed and replacement information when it comes to compressors and coils. We NOW also need serial numbers on both failed and replacement parts for thermostats, user interfaces, zoning and related accessories. In addition if this information is missing, the Warranty Department will be unable to process your claim and cannot provide you with your credit. Please take the serial number and part number directly from the actual part, not from the invoice you receive from TSI.

CLAIMS: Make sure to send in your claim forms within 30 days of the repair date to avoid claims from either being denied or charged a penalty (depending on each vendor’s policy or product).

This Week's Topic:
DUCT FREE SPLITS

Monday - To charge a Duct Free Split (DFS) extract charge & weigh it back in 2 factory’s charge. Greater than 14 deg. F Delta T is working correctly.

Wednesday - Often a DFS will have a lower than normal suction pressure. Saturation temperatures of 18 degrees Fahrenheit can be expected.

Don’t exceed line length, height or size restrictions from manual. Compressor may fail. Often the smaller line is a mixed phase line.

It must be insulated. This line is the beginning of the evaporator & is below dew point.

Friday - A Sanyo Duct Free Split has one port to see into the system. This port is 3/16” fitting (Part number QC-S5).

DFS are designed for AC operation. Standard AC operation is above 65 degrees F. Below this requires low ambient kits.

This Week's Topic:
ROOFTOP UNITS

Monday - Checking a charge on a roof top unit must be done with all panels in place. Look for a knockout to pass your hoses through.

Wednesday - To properly clean double row condenser coil, split them. Before you open power to the unit, check X terminal on low voltage terminal board w/ respect to C.

Friday - Part 1 of 2: If power is present on terminal board, your CLO (Compressor Lock Out) device has been engaged.

Part 2 of 2: If the Compressor Lockout has stage “Locked Out” the economizer will still function if outdoor air is sufficient for cooling.

This Week's Topic:
TRANSFORMERS

Monday - VA = value on transformer (40VA, 60VA, 75VA). VA=Volts x Amperes. Its the max a transformer can withstand before failing.

Wednesday - Part 1 of 2: Transformers: Maximum safe current ratings (fuse size) is found by dividing VA/V=A. What size fuse is protecting your transformer?

Part 2 of 2: Example: 40VA/24vac =1.67 amperes, 60VA/42vac = 2.5 amperes, 75VA/24vac = 3.125 amperes.

Friday - Transformer output directly related 2 Input. If transformer = 10 to 1 and you apply 240vac to input, = 24vac out.
208vac = 20.8vac out.
460vac = 46vac out.

This Week's Topic:
ECONOMIZERS

Monday - An integrated economizer lets the compressor operate @ the same time the economizer is open (needs Y1 &Y2 Demand).

Wednesday - Most have spring return actuators. If power fails u want damper 2 drive closed. Damper position limited by Mixed Air Temp (MAT). Also called Supply Air Temp (SAT).

Friday - Part 1 of 3: SAT/MAT read after AC coil but b4 heating surface. Regulated between 45 & 55 deg F by sensor in air stream, often on blower housing.

Part 2 of 3: Integrated econonomizer looks @ AC operation & total air added from outside. Adds mechanical cooling if OAT (Outdoor Air Temp) is greater than fixed Lockout Temp.

Part 3 of 3: Generally mechanical cooling is limited to operate at temperatures above 40°F. Below, no mechanical cooling is allowed.
